Brendan Shanahan as Leafs President – You can’t teach someone how to be a Winner

So a few of you have reached out to me asking what I think of ‘Brendan Shanahan’ being appointed as President of the ‘Toronto Maple Leafs’. I think this is one of the best moves the Leafs organization has made in a long while, and can finally say this is a spark that should lead to light down the tunnel.
It’s no secret, this is a guy who comes from the ‘Detroit Red Wings’, where Shanny was a part of the ’97 Stanley Cup win (their first since ’55), and then helped that organization win several more Cups. A guy who knows what it takes, both in the Show and in the Olympics.
As I have always said — a belief I share in all of Business, Sport, and Coaching — it is ALWAYS about Culture (which is where I feel the Leafs hurt most) and I think a guy like Shanahan understands what it takes to win. His process to get to this position in his career, and his logic to not only make a lateral move from the NHL to Hockey Operations of a franchise, but rather to the President role of one, is just another sign of this.
You can teach someone skills … but you can’t teach someone how to be a Winner.
